exhibition value vs.
cult value

The concept “Exhibition Value” and “Cult Value” was developed by Walter Benjamin in his essay “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”. This piece examines the traditional art of origami and how the value increases by adapting it to modern-day practices. Cult value and exhibition value were presented individually with an origami fold that compliments their value. Cult value describes the origins of origami as well as the process to create a specific paper and the value it held in the past. Exhibition value displays the amazing extent origami can adapt to modern-day situations, such as incorporating intricate folds to improve surgical tools.
